Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) course follows the full HSE syllabus covering an understanding of the role of the first-aider including reference to available equipment, preventing cross-infection and the need for recording incidents and actions..

In this 6 hour course Candidates are taught through a mixture of both practical and theory with the aim of giving you the confidence to get involved. You will learn how to examine a casualty and provide the skills, comfort and care to someone who is hurt or unwell until, if necessary, those medically trained arrive on scene. There is no final exam or formal assessment this is all done throughout the day by Katherine in a relaxed and encouraging way.

COURSE DETAILS

1 DAY COURSE (6 HOURS)

On completion of training, successful candidates should be able to:

  • Understand the role of the first aider including reference to:
    - the importance of preventing cross infection
    - the need for recording incidents and actions
    - use of available equipment

  • Assess the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency

  • Deal with a casualty who is unconscious (including seizures)

  • Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and use an A.E.D. (Defib)

  • Deal with a choking casualty

  • Administer first aid to a casualty who is wounded and bleeding

  • Deal with a casualty who is suffering from shock

  • Provided appropriate first aid for minor injuries including small cuts, grazes and bruises, minor burns and scalds, and small splinters
